The 1952 Chrysler Imperial was the first model year of the Imperial brand, which was separate from Chrysler. The Imperial was positioned as a luxury car, and featured a number of high-end design elements and technology. Its unique design featured a “forward look ” characterized by long, sleek lines and a low, wide stance. One of the first cars to offer power steering and brakes, it also has an advanced suspension system. Overall, the 1952 Imperial was considered a high-end luxury car, and its combination of good looks, performance, and luxury features helped to make it popular among consumers. Our 1952 Imperial has two very important features- The Hemi (FirePower) engine and the Fluid drive automatic transmission.

It’s long, sleek and black. The paint on our 1952 Imperial looks good and it’s evident this car is a driver and not a show queen. It is an older paint job, but is uniform and fits the car, although it is possible that black is not the original color. No rust is visible anywhere. The huge chrome grill and front bumper look to be in good condition with signs of wear and road use. The big Imperial is a 4 door car with minimal chrome trim on the sides and a very large rear bumper, also in good condition. It’s got fender skirts, making the long, low car look even more so. There is a lot of space in the trunk. This is an Arizona car and the arid climate has helped to preserve the entire car.

The interior of the car is big, comfortable and full of features from the 2 big bench seats which are covered in period-correct materials to the steering wheel with horn ring and fluid drive shifter mounted on the column. Big. Luxurious. Vintage. Cool as you might imagine. The interior is fancy, functional and worthy of a high-end luxury car of 70 years ago. High end details can be found on the dash with its perfectly preserved instrumentation and gauges. A car looks this good after 70 years because its owners cared for it and carefully maintained it. Original door panels look very good. All of the trim pieces are there and the door upholstery looks plush. The big back seat area is pristine, even the grab handles on the seat in front are in place. A very nice, well preserved interior in this luxurious sedan.

The engine of our 1952 Imperial is Chrysler Hemi 331 ci V8. Introduced the previous year, the “Fire Power” Hemi engine is monstrous, it weighs almost 1,000 pounds. The motor puts out 180 horsepower. It appears to be original and the car retains the factory oil-bath air cleaner. The owner states that there are 110,000 miles on the car. The innovative Fluid Drive 3 speed automatic transmission is featured. It requires some getting used to as the car has a clutch pedal to help operate the transmission. Fluid drive is a combination of both manual and automatic into a durable smooth transmission. Good enough for one of the finest luxury cars of its day.
