Vollmer Stringed Instruments

Claire Byrne and Brian Vollmer offer lessons on Violin, Viola, Fiddle (Bluegrass & Old-Time), Banjo (3-finger & Clawhammer), acoustic and electric Guitar and Ukelele.

Claire and Brian accept students ages 7 and up for 30/60 minute lessons. Students can expect to learn proper technique, theory, musicianship, improvisation and how to read music and/or learn by ear! Instruction is offered in classical, folk, bluegrass, old-time, and rock music.

Claire has been playing for 28 years and teaching for 13. She attended SUNY Fredonia where she majored in violin performance and sound engineering. She teaches and performs for a living.

Brian hails from Baltimore, MD where he began playing banjo as a teenager surrounded by Bluegrass music and world-renowned players and mentors. He went on to learn Apalachian fiddling during his time in Tennessee while attending Middle Tennessee State University.

Brian and Claire live in Binghamton with their two young sons.
