The Big Read…Park Ave Area Shared home for Temp Professionals
Greetings from Rochester’s great Park Ave Area.
I sometimes share my home with persons from out of the area who are on temporary (3 months to 2 years) assignments and incoming professionals who want to learn more about Rochester before getting into a lease or buying a home.
So I kinda call this The Big Read with the understanding that more information is a plus for many people.
The next opening is about 10 FEB. but could be sooner in certain circumstances.
Over 90 persons have been here to date.
As of late, the house guests have been more medical people on temporary 3 month assignments who appreciate paying somewhat less than Air B and B rates. Since they have worked out well, that’s the direction I’d like to go, but other non-medical professionals / grad students and incoming college/ university instructors could be welcome.
Here is a sampling of those who have worked out well:
Doctors, respiratory therapists, nurses and medical lab technicians on temporary assignments.
Physical therapy interning students from Ithaca College, Boston U. and Quinnipiac University.
Incoming college/university instructors..St John Fisher, RIT and U of R.
Contract engineers at L3 Harris.
Eastman School of Music grad students.
German students doing internships at Gleasonworks.
Grad students interning at Xerox
.
Kent State language translation interns.
Computer and I.T. people on temporary assignments at Rochester companies and universities.
People doing research or training in matters photographic at Eastman House… mostly French and German.
Some facts about the neighborhood and location:
The home is minutes from three supermarkets: Wegmans, Aldies, PriceRite
The home is a 2 min walk to Park Ave and a 4-5 minute walk to Park and Berkley
with restaruants, pubs ,CVS pharmacy and more.
The home is within 10 minutes of Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital. And about 13 minutes from Rochester General.
A number of gyms and Hotshots indoor sand volleyball (with restaurant and bar) is nearby!
The neighborhood is full of young and not young people. Runners, walkers, bicycleists, skate boarders are common, yet it is a quiet neighborhood suitable for day sleeping.
Here are some facts about this shared abode:
The environment is totally nonsmoking and pet free.
.
The fee averages $630 per month and includes laundry and internet use.
An additional $10 per month is asked for for necessary household supplies.
First month rent is $115 above the average. The second months rent is $65 above the average, and the third months rent is $180 BELOW the average.
It is a “Quiet Enjoyment” abode, meaning it is non party pad and not a loud music environment.
It is a place where housemates might be expected to an hour or so worth of housecleaning per week.
Not too much personal stuff. There is a limited amount of storage space. Needed furniture and such is provided. Multiple vehicles not desired, although a car and a light to medium motorbike or Vespa might be OK. In warm weather I can supply a bicycle under certain circumstances.
Age and comfort level. As good fate would have it I am an old guy, but most of my housemates have been mostly 20-55.
Friendship… You should be friendly to live here in a shared environment, but developing strong friendships with other housemates is not a requirement. Personality dynamics and social needs determine that. Some medical housemates are work, sleep, eat and back to their original home type.
.
THE PROCESS
Communications and information requirements:
As this is a private shared home, it is necessary to have some background info to assure you would be a good fit.
Here are the several steps we would have to take to possibly make a housing arrangement.
1.You email me introducing yourself telling me about yourself and what is important from your perspective and your assignment in Rochester….kind of like a “letter of introduction,” which might be a brief or not brief biography. Ask questions at this time.
2.If you seem to be a good fit for the existing situation, at this point we will have further communications answering any important questions that might come up.
3. If it appears you would work out fine, I will inform you and send some information on the business end.
4. At his point if you want to confirm and hold a spot, it should be possible.
The information needed is probably the same info you would want from a person, unknown to you, who might want to share your home. There is no lease so if your contract in Rochester is cancelled, cut short, you should be able to depart without complications.
Thank you for your interest and patients. I hope you find housing that meets your needs.
Cheers,
The Big Read
