The mask camouflages and interprets a self-portrait of the artist “Salome”. Even the fact that the artist is also blindfolded and thus seemingly oblivious of his immediate surroundings does not isolate him from Berlin, the city in which he lives. Like a map of the city, the mask is also divided into four sectors, each identified by the flags of the occupying powers. It is a mask which has the appearance of being totally torn apart through political tension. And peeping through the torn gap in the mask, not immediately discernible, are the colors of the Federal Republic: black, red and gold. Salome was born in Karlsruhe, Germany in 1954.
