Queer Roommate Wanted for Fall 2023

$570

Wordy ad incoming!

I am seeking a roommate for the beginning of August or September of 2023.

Ideal scenario: You are a working professional or responsible (graduate) student. You are also queer! You don’t have pets, as I already have one cat who does best without other animals. You’d rather your roommate owns a lot of stuff to furnish the unit. Your budget for housing hovers around $700, before utilities, but is marginally flexible. You have lived with others before and are able to share space kindly and respectfully.

The rundown: I am a queer, 27 y/o woman looking to move back to Lawrence and live in a cozy queer household for (at least) one year to save money. I work from home and am based out of Lawrence. I have one cat. I am a relatively large homebody at this point (thank you pandemic), so picture movie night in, yoga at home, eating in > out, etc. We don’t need to be besties, but spending time together would be a welcome bonus.

I do not yet have a place lined up, but am in touch with my previous landlord to hopefully rent one of his properties again. Regardless, I am looking for a minimum of 3 bd/2 ba, so we would each have our own room and bathroom, and have the additional room to function as an office for both of us. My ideal price, before utilities, is $1,400 – I could go as high as $1,500 as a stretch, but I am really trying to keep within that $1,400 range, knowing utilities would be added on. I am happy to do the house hunting and run places by you! It would be nice to know I have a roommate lined up before I am looking, however.

Since I am not a student, my timeline is flexible. Starting a lease September 1 is incredibly ideal, as it gives me an extra month of savings. August 1 might be more realistic, given we’re searching in a college town.

I own a decent amount of stuff for your average 20-something, including a dining room table, all kitchen equipment and appliances, a TV for the living room, plenty of DVDs, and lots of books. Obviously, I don’t have to hog all the space, but I know this can be a benefit for someone who does not own a bunch of junk and is okay to borrow things.

I am posting this (long) ad incredibly early, as I want there to be time for us to get to know each other before we commit. I currently live out of state, so I would love to do some video calls before I am able to drive to Lawrence for a visit and rental tours, where we can meet IRL.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading! I’m so excited to hear from you.
