Several listings for housing rentals on Boise Craigslist are attempts by con artists to defraud you. Watch for the ominous signals!

Google searches for “red flags on this scam post”ch of address shows the address is a single wide trailer, with an estimated $2600 rental price.
No phone number.
Far below fair rental market value.

A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF RENTALS LISTED ON BOISE CL ARE FAKE. A recent report from the BBB listed the Boise region as the number 2 area in the country for rental scams.

Don’t be one of the many who have been robbed by vermin scammers on CL. Do not send any money or personal information unless it is a known reputable property manager, or without meeting at the property with the landlord.

If it sounds to good to be true, it is likely a filthy scammer trying to steal your money!

Things to look for when viewing rental posts;
Red Flag 1 – Not local. Area codes outside of the 208 or 986.
Red Flag 2- Toll free numbers, also phone #’s that come up as an error message.
Red Flag 3 – Unbelievably Cheap.
Red Flag 4 – Email Only listed, no phone number. Only use email to get their local ph.#
Red Flag 5 – Advanced Payment required, including application fees.
Red Flag 6 – No Address, Some scammers will replace the address with the word “near”, followed by an intersection or landmark so that you cannot search the physical address.

ADDRESS; If there is a property address, google search that address to look for the property listed on other sites. Also, compare exterior pictures to google street view. Many of the scammers post pictures that come from Zillow, VRBO, Airbnb, or other Rental sites, where the property is likely listed for sale or for rent at a much higher price. If there is no property address, ask for one and search it before providing any personal information or application fees. If it is an apartment, contact the apartment office by phone.

IF YOU FIND A POST THAT IS AN OBVIOUS FAKE, FLAG IT! IT TAKES MULTIPLE FLAGS BEFORE CRAIGLIST WILL REMOVE IT.
