The Inspector is in charge of inspecting buildings to ensure that its structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and residential sprinkler systems adhere to certain designs and requirements. This position requires domestic travel and is a 100% field- based position to conduct field-based inspection activities.

Fee paid is determined by contract and is expected to range between $50 to $75 per hour for domestic work. Covered travel costs include mileage (if travel by ground instead of air), airfare, hotel, rental car, and applicable per diem.

Supervision Received/Exercised
-The Inspector receives direction from Supervisor and the Project Manager. The Inspector may, from time-to-time, be asked to take a lead role in providing other services critical to the performance of IBTS contractual obligations such as special inspections, research, or similar technical services relevant to the field inspector’s education, background, and experience. Compensated training is provided for approved candidates.

Responsibilities and Duties (Duties include but are not limited to):
-Inspects structures relating to structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, and conducts periodic reviews, and enters results in program using a computer, laptop, tablet or another portable electronic device. Also reports on potential quality assurance program concerns.
-Uses approved professional sealed drawing designs and specification to ensure structures are constructed in conformance with minimum requirements, applies codes, standards, and workmanship.
-Provides support for the clients in an amicable manner to assist in resolution of concerns related to the actual construction.
-Offers suggestions to assist in corrective and preventive actions and helps devise possible solutions for ensuring compliance.
-Captures, follows-up and reports on outstanding corrective action activities.
-Provides peer review of completed reports.
-Provides guidance to team members on all procedures, technical issues, travel planning, and communications.

Education Requirements
High school graduate
-Technical trade training in building construction.
Certifications and Registrations
-ICC Certified Residential Combination Inspector, desired.

Work Experience
-Four or more years building construction experience and/or as a residential inspector.
-Experience in working as a member of a team.

-Skillful writing skills with the ability to compile data.
-Strong interactive skills for conducting inspections in a constructive and fair manner.
-Skilled in the use of programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
-Time management skills for executing inspections.
-Dispute resolution skills to resolve differences or conflicts amicably and professionally.
-Travel planning skills for travel by air/car, hotels, and invoicing preparation.
-Familiarity with codes, standards, workmanship, and construction methods for housing construction—all trades as applicable for housing.
-Represents the organization in a professional, ethical, and consistent manner.
-Ability to work as a team player and to work with all levels of staff within an organization.
-Ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision and to successfully complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
